Really disappointed with the way Lardner's has done business with us. We were on our way to the snow for school holidays, and our engine overheated near Warragul. This is RACV's preferred mechanic in the area, so with our Total Care we got towed there for an estimate, as our car was un-drivable due to a blown gasket. Waited hours for RACV to get back to us on a rental, as Lardners also serves as the preferred RACV hire car Hertz company. Got told finally as RACV had still not organized our hire car, that we should just go ahead and pay for the hire ourselves and RACV would then cover up to $88/day while our car was in the shop, which we could recover as long as we saved our receipts. We still have not recovered this. We have returned home since and have been randomly charged by Lardner's Hertz $283 beyond the cost of the hire car for exceeding a supposed 200 km driving limit/day which was in the fine print. Not only did Lardner's not advise us of this, but even encouraged us to go ahead and enjoy our holiday while our car was being looked at! Furthermore, as the value of our car would not have justified repairs, Lardner's offered us a low-ball estimate of $50-100 for scrap metal "if we were lucky" (2006 Mistubishi Outlander, $6000 market value, new Bridgestone tyres put on this year, no damage to the body of the car). We called around to our local mechanics in Melbourne and got offered $550, so we're getting it towed to us. Now Lardner's has gone ahead and charged $110 on our card for doing nothing! Unbelievable. They are very nice at the desk and seem genuine, but unfortunately this has not deterred them from ripping people off.
